Freedom Ranch Update

So much to update everyone on. Well 2020 was a crazy year wasn’t it and everything was put on hold to some extent but I guess I should update you all on what happened before 2020. So a year or so after we obtained the property we had a volunteer on the property. There was a moment when Joshua was out of town and he trusted others to make decisions we ended up with huge piles of concrete (it was supposed to be fill dirt). Ok that’s fine we could work around this. Then we had an incident where someone almost committed suicide on the property. Joshua is pretty resilient but this hit him hard. I believe it shook his core. He is here wanting to build a place of healing for others one that will help bring hope to those who are thinking about suicide. It was something that took him a minute (a little over a year) to evaluate and bounce back from. I’m sure he questioned himself about things but had to move past the asking whys and what ifs. Instead he needed to move on. Well 2020 it started to get warm and then bam everything was shut down. With the suicide rate going up Joshua knew he had to do something so fall 2020 came and he was ready to get to work. He had his plan out and needed to wrap up some doctor appointments and at that time his leg braces fail and he breaks his finger. Right before he gets a chance to get over to the property and get the ball rolling again after several set backs he must focus on his health and finger. He didn’t know whether it would need surgery or not but he did the exercises required and didn’t need surgery. His finger healed nicely and then someone reached out asking if we could assit a homeless veteran. Joshua’s heart loves to help others and especially veterans so of course he said yes. Right after this he started working on the ranch again. Things are slow getting done but small steps are taken weekly and they are getting done. Even today as I’m writing this Joshua has thrown up three times from being overheated and fatigue. So it might take him longer than someone who doesn’t have a disability but he has heart and will get it done. We have taken off all of the vinyl siding as some of it was damaged by the fire. We love the old shiplap siding underneath it and we have decided to pressure wash it and sand as needed then paint it white. Boards that were rotten are being replaced and. We even had some windows donated that were not the same size as what was there originally but new frames have been built and they are being put in. We even centered the door and added a window where the old door was. (Check out the photo) We are excited with the progress so far and can’t wait to see it done. So it has taken a long time to get where we are at but God is working it out.
